Understanding the differences between Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care can be somewhat confusing. It may seem like there is very little difference in what each level of care provides if you are unfamiliar with these types of arrangements.
When it comes time to consider whether you or a loved one needs more assistance, it is important to keep the individual’s needs, abilities and resources in mind. Find out what payment options are available, what safety measures are in place and what services are provided or available. Understanding all of your options will help make the decision that is right for you.
The Independent Living offers safety, security and independence. Bethany Home Independent Living includes triplexes, duplexes and 1-bedroom cottages. Independent Living residents have access to common areas for gathering, meeting or hosting personal events. Rent may be income based and includes: home maintenance, grounds-keeping, trash and sewer services, and laundry facilities.
Individuals in the Independent Living Community must be able to maintain a higher level of independence; however, other services may be available through Bethany Home, Lindsborg Community Hospital and/or the community.Independent Living can be funded through private funds, social security, and/or retirement income.
Assisted Living offers an easier transition from Independent living to long-term care and may be the ideal solution for those who need some attendant care or supervision but still have the ability to maintain their own activities of daily living. Bethany Home Assisted Living offers three meals daily, housekeeping, personal care and/or healthcare assistance, as well as maintenance and grounds-keeping. Staffing is provided 24 hours per day and a licensed nurse is available at all times.
Ideal candidates for Assisted Living are still able to perform most activities of daily living, but may need some assistance with personal hygiene, medication management, and/or health monitoring. When considering a transition to Assisted Living, keep in mind overall health condition, family support, financial situation, level of assistance or oversight required, and socialization needs. Assisted Living can be funded through private funds and/or long-term care insurance. Medicare is accepted for qualifying services.
Long-Term or Skilled Nursing Care, offers a wide range of services to meet a variety of needs. These needs range from minimal healthcare oversight to extensive nursing care. Bethany Home has a full staff of CNA, CMA’s along with licensed and registered nurses on every shift. Bethany Home partners with local rehabilitation services to provide physical, occupational and speech therapy. We also partner with Gentiva Hospice to provide additional support and end of life care.
Room and board includes nursing care, meals and snacks, laundry and housekeeping services, maintenance, and area-wide transportation. When contemplating long term care or skilled nursing, consider overall health and physical conditions, cognitive needs, family support and recommendations by health care personnel. Long-term care and/or skilled nursing can be funding by private funds, long-term care insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran’s Assistance and/or other programs.
